Private Lands.
Public Benefits.

Nearly all of Texas is privately owned. The farms and ranches families work every day are also where our water starts, our food is grown, our wildlife lives, and our rural communities take root. The rain that falls on a Hill Country ranch reaches a stock tank, a river, and eventually a family's tap in Houston. What happens on private land doesn't stay behind the fence line — it reaches every Texan.

Texas is growing fast, and so is the pressure on the land that sustains it. Farmers and ranchers are making real decisions right now about water, development, transmission lines, energy projects, rising costs, and whether the next generation can afford to keep the land in the family. Lawmakers and local leaders are shaping the rules that will define those choices for decades.

The Texas Center for Private Lands helps Texas meet this moment. We bring landowners, lawmakers, and businesses together to turn sound science and practical experience into action — protecting private property rights, and strengthening the working lands and rural communities that sustain the public benefits private lands provide.

We take on the fastest-moving issues facing Texas farms, ranches, and working lands — grounding every effort in landowner input, credible research, and voluntary, market-based tools that protect private property rights and keep working lands working for all Texans.
